Taqueria al Lado makes its Adams Morgan debut on January 15th at 5pm, when it opens the doors to its indoor-outdoor restaurant at the corner of Columbia Rd. and 18th Street. The creation of Rolando Frias, owner of the adjacent Al volo and nearby Retrobottega, the restaurant will feature a dedication to freshly made foods, beginning with Nixtamal style corn tortillas stone-ground on the premises, and fresh ingredients sourced locally. "We have no freezer" says Frias, "all food will be prepared in house." The restaurant comes after a 5 month renovation. The building was known for many years as the home of Mixtec Mexican restaurant, which closed several years ago, followed by attempts at a Philly Cheesesteak shop and bagelry, neither of which every opened. The restaurant has an outdoor patio with heat and rain cover.
